Graceful, ancient and full of quiet majesty, the Deodar Cedar brings a sense of reverence to any landscape. Native to the western Himalayas, its name comes from the Sanskrit devadāru, meaning “wood of the gods”—a fitting tribute to a tree long held sacred in Indian culture.

Its sweeping, pendulous branches and soft, bluish-green needles give it a gentle, almost ethereal silhouette. It grows tall—often exceeding 40 metres—and adapts well to temperate climates, thriving in parklands and along grand avenues.

Historically prized for its aromatic, rot-resistant timber, the Deodar Cedar has been used in temples and traditional construction. Today, it offers not just beauty and structure, but a sense of timeless calm—grounding the garden in stillness and grace.
