Fagus Sylvatica ‘Purpurea’

Regal and refined, the Copper Beech is a tree of presence. A cultivated form of the European Beech, its name—Purpurea—speaks to its rich, dark foliage, which ranges from deep purple in spring to a burnished bronze by autumn.

Its smooth grey bark, wavy-edged leaves, and generous canopy make it a favourite in formal gardens and broad parklands. Though slow to establish, it can live for centuries, creating cool, shaded spaces and commanding attention with its dramatic colouring.

In winter, the dried leaves often linger on the branches, adding texture and tone to the winter garden. With its architectural beauty and seasonal depth, the Copper Beech offers both contrast and character—standing as a living sculpture through the years.
